Kate Middleton + Lupo

Going on today's trend of adorableness (the otter.... not Miley Cyrus or Chentelle Houghton, let's not get confused) here is are two adorable photos of the Duchess of Cambridge (still cannot get used to calling her that!) walking her and William's dog Lupo. So gosh darn cute and love what she's wearing- big fan, as ever.

Redundancy and Kate

So today was a bit of a shitter. It started off with my boyfriend leaving until Wednesday which was sad (but at lease he will be back soon) and which quickly followed by me getting made redundant (apparently my evil- and unsurprisingly- French bosses' idea of an early Christmas present) followed by much application writing and work on my essay (something which has been hanging over my head for a good 12 months now and driving me slightly mad, the position of women in the boardroom has actually managed to become more boring than it started) which was then followed by a massive migraine (courtesy of my own stupidity, having put the wrong contacts in this morning.

Luckily the day has culminated in the attendance of Kate at the Bravery event looking stunning. A small cherry on my icecream sunday of shit. Woot..... woot.....

Today has improved.... royally

Kate Middleton (or sorry the Duchess of Cambridge- I just can't get used to that!) must have heard that I was sick because she FINALLY made an appearance. Last night Kate carried out her first official solo engagement as she stood in for Prince Charles at a charity event. Prince Charles was called away to Riyadh to present condolences to the Saudi Royal Family following the death of the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia. The big news was that commentators suggested that Kate was wearing a strip hair weft beneath her own hair, supposedly visible on the left hand side. I'm sure she does wear extensions (particularly for the Royal Wedding) but I'm not entirely sure that what we are seeing in these photos is a hair weft.

I am not sure where the dress is from. I am semi- willing to bet Temperley but I'm not totally sold on it. I love the neckline and the color of the bead work but the actual color of the dress itself is not getting me excited. Neither is the cut of the skirt. Kate is so slim that an empire waistline seems rather unnecessary. I would have preferred no waistline and a lack of seaming on the skirt. She looks great though although I am not loving the arms and shoulders. She's looking a bit too much like a swimmer at the moment and her uber slimness is aging her. She looks more like she is in her mid 30s than in her mid 20s.

Kate disappoints

So while this week marked a sartorial high for Pippa Middleton, it disappointingly did not for Kate. A fact I am so saddened by that I have put off posting about it. I just don't like the cut, I hate the neckline, I detest the sleeves, I abhore the belt, I don't like the color- I don't think it's nice on her and I don't think it would be nice off her. I just don't like it.

A very mini Kate, and the Queen, check out her dress at Buckingham Palace

Today a VERY tiny looking Kate, accompanied by the Queen, went to check out her dress at Buckingham Palace..... obviously in the event that she had forgotten what it looked like..... So I would be lying if I didn't say I was SUPER excited to see it too.... but obviously I didn't wear it and help design it..... Apparently the Queen was aghast that the mannequin was headless, perhaps a reminder of what could happen to the monarchy if Charles was ever made King.... Regardless both looked very regal and Kate (tiny as never before) looked absolutely lovely. I am intrigued though as to how the smaller she gets the larger her breasts seem to get.... why does that never happen to me?!

Tamara Ecclestone and the responsibility of wealth (of course in regard to keeping slim- let's not get too serious!)

So there are many things I covet about Tamara Ecclestone: her house, her cars, her shoe collection, her wardrobe, her year round tan, fundraising efforts for the Great Ormond Street Hospital, long brown hair and oh yes the fact that she doesn't have to work. After seeing these photos however I would say that the one thing I do not covet is the bod (or the tattoos for that matter).

(I will admit though that I do covet the Herve Leger pastel number she uploaded on Twitter)

I mean it's not atrocious by any means BUT let's be honest if I had unlimited access to Harrods I would make every effort to make sure that, that access was truly unlimited. And by this I mean that I could fit into everything and  would look fabulous in everything. More than that I would feel like I had a responsibility, in fact I already do. I'm going to go out on a limb here and speak totally frankly about a subject that is near and dear to my heart, fitness. We all read the magazines and we read impossibly thin actresses claim 'I eat anything' or 'I don't work out- I do activities that I enjoy'. To an extent I'm sure they're right they probably do eat anything that their chef prepares for them.... and their chef only prepares foods that are nutritionally balanced and low in fat and calories. And they probably do only do activities they enjoy.... like trampolining, yoga, pole dancing, zumba... or any of the other fun but costly ways to keep slim. And yes it annoys me that they can't just be honest and say 'to tell you the truth, I don't drink and I don't eat gluten, lactose- or anything that doesn't take slightly like dirt or cardboard.... and I work my butt off'. But when it comes to weight, nobody is ever honest. The old adage is 'you can't get something for nothing' but when it comes to staying slim we all seem to want to believe it's true, and when we're not trying to buy into the fallacy we're perpetuating it by lying to people about what we actually do to keep looking the way we do. Why do we do it? Because it's embarrassing. That's my theory at least. Nobody wants to admit 'listen I spend an hour a day on cardio or weights, I count every calorie I eat and then I spend hours agonizing about what I mistakenly put into my body'... because to admit you have that much time on your hands is shameful. And now we come full circle back to Tamara Ecclestone. She DOES have that much time on her hands she literally could spend every moment perfecting herself into a lean, mean, clothes wearing machine. That's why I am personally offended by the fact that she clearly doesn't. I don't expect her to spend ALL day but a few hours a day wouldn't hurt. When people far less fortunate than you are scrapping minutes together to try and be the best they can be, whether it be hitting the gym at 5 am before the kids are up or forgoing dinner with the boyfriend to hit the yoga studio basically everyone else is sacrificing and with arguably less incentive. Then here comes a girl with the time, with the incentive (by which I mean she gets photographed- and if that isn't incentive enough I don't know what is...) and with the means and what does she do... she turns her thighs into a breeding ground for cellulite. And that my friends is something that I am personally outraged by, and in my opinion everyone else should be too.

Which brings me to my final point. Today I was watching E News and Giuliana Rancic was bemoaning the fact that Kate Middleton is streamlining at a massive rate (to put it nicely). I'm going to gloss over the fact that couldn't get any more ironic that Guiliana commenting on someone being 'too skinny' and point out my issue with this. We don't want our celebrities to look like us. Why would we? We buy celebrity magazines, watch E News and read blogs like PerezHilton and JustJared to salivate over not the mundane details of their lives but what they look like doing it. We want to be inspired and we want to aspire. We want to see images of Victoria Beckham walking through an airport because it's something different from our own lived experience. We want these people to be 'perfect' but mostly to be different from us because in that difference lies hope and possibility. If we looked like that maybe we'd have that romance or if we buy that dress maybe we'll also share that glow. I'm not saying I'm not concerned with Kate's weight loss but I'm just saying that although E News might flash all the images of vintage Kate in Ugg boots and extra flesh that it wants across the screen in the long run just like we want to see every other celebrity looking their 'best' the current story will fade and what will be left is how fabulous she looks in all of her new garb.

Kate's Canada Day ensemble

So although I've elected to wait until the END of the royal tour and post all the photos at once I just had to post this one now as it is Canada day and it was right on the mark!

Enjoy!

Kate takes off in Smythe

Kate has begun her Canadian trip today in true style rocking a Mulberry handbag and a Smythe jacket.

I had been so wishing that she would choose Smythe as the brands aesthetic jives so well with her own. I'm particularly hoping that she'll choose one of their equestrian jackets for her visit to calgary.

There are two other reasons I am pleased (1) The brand is also owned by a dear friend of the family and I am so pleased for her at this moment. Everyone knows that when Kate wears something instantly sales sky rocket and sites crash. (2) It's so nice to see her moving away from the high street. Mulberry AND Smythe... it's definitely a good start!

Daily dose of Duchess

Today Kate took on her first military role as a royal, handing out medals to members of the Irish guards who had recently returned from serving in Afghanistan.

The Duke of Cambridge (aka. Prince Willy) is the Colonel of the Irish guards and Kate stated that she was very pleased to be undertaking a role for a regiment "so close to her husband's heart."

Kate wore a navy military style dress which has been reported to be Burberry Prorsum.... although I did not see it in the fall runway collection HOWEVER I would be exceedingly pleased if it was as this would represent the first time (in my memory) that Kate has worn something (I would be willing to wager at least in the last year) before it was available to the public. The dress was adorned with a gold shamrock which was on loan to her from the regiment, which has been worn by both the Queen Mother and Princess Anne. I am particularly in love with her hat which was just too fitting and adorable for words, as well as her clutch (got to hand it to the girl, although I might despise her taste in handbags- her taste in clutches is beyond reproach!).

Prince William and Kate release an official portrait for their upcoming tour

Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge (Kate Middleton!) have released an official portrait for their tour of the United States and Canada. It was taken earlier this month in the gardens of Clarence House and it has made me VERY happy.

This skirt suit in one of my FAVORITE Kate looks of all time and I'm glad to see her choosing to recycle it (I also get immense pleasure from the fact that it looks like she did her hair herself!). You may remember that she previously wore is at the couple's final pre wedding public appearance in Lancashire.

Kate on the afternoon of the ARK ball (June 10th, 2011)

This photo rather lends support to my view that with good bone structure and a slim figure miracles do come true.
It's hard to imagine that she went from this to the stunning creature we saw three hours later in Jenny Packham at the ARK Charity Ball at Kensington Palace; however, it serves to give us all hope!

ps.... on a negative note I absolutely DESPISE that brown Prada purse. Firstly the color is just hideous and NEVER goes with anything she's wearing (i.e. the black Issa wrap dress- I cringe just thinking about it) and the shape is a f*ing affront to this decade A BOWLER. Honestly... very 00s and I'm not being mean just for goodness gracious go and get yourself some decent non clutch bags!

Stocking up for Winter & Kate at the Order of the Garter Ceremony

So as a result of Kate's recent onslaught of appearances I have decided to heed the example of the diligent mouse and save these photos for a week when the appearances of Kate (the great) may not be quite so copious, for that cold winters day when these photos will warm my aching lack of Kate.

For that reason I am not even going to closely attend to these photos.... but let me just point out that my overall impression is (sadly) *yawn!*

Sunday, June 12, 2011

Well we shall all rue the day we called her 'Waity Katey' after this week!

Kate and Pippa Middleton at the Wedding of Sam Waley- Cohen

Love that she's recycling! Such a royal tradition BUT the cynic in me HAS to say... what's point in 'recycling' when you essentially have the entire dress made over (i.e. taken in, the hem taken up, the back altered and completely changed... etc.)
p.s. Pippa.... not a flattering look, she looks about 60 in this photo. Much more like the spinster older sister then the supposedly young and vibrant one.... (perhaps it's all that time in the sun beds...).
It's also Pippa's hat I think which is adding to the problem- it looks like it's wilting on her head... whilst trying to make a tandem escape via her ear.
I will however give her props for the embellishment on her sleeves... but that color is just ghastly.
Beautiful photo of Kate's dress. Although if you look closely at the back you can see the extent to which it was taken in.
A great example as to the extent to which style has improved, as well as her dramatic weight loss. Gone is the poorly fitting bolero, cheap belt and lashings of patent and in their place are minimal accessories which highlight her shape and don't draw attention away from either the dress or her features.
This photo makes the effects of her weight loss clearly apparent. The shape of her face as well as the size or her arms and legs have completely changed, in fact it looks as if she's swapped her previous figure for that of Pippa's.

Kate at Prince Phillip's 90th Birthday

So I'm going to keep this short and sweet.....

I'm pretty much neutral in regard to the coat.

The hat is a fucking disaster. It looks like a tea cosy which is sprouting weeds.
The dress under the coat looks like the Reiss one she wore when she departed for her first 'honeymoon'.... honestly we get it you're thrifty.... blah blah blah- I could care less flash some fashion and let's get on with it.

The makeup is not great- I wish she'd stop rimming your eyes. We get it they're average and you don't have bags anymore. Big whoop you have a prince at least give as single women the solace of dolling up for us a bit more. Honestly I know 15 year olds who rock this look equally as well.
The shoes.... I like them they are fine but I'm still pissed off that they aren't Jimmy Choo firstly; and secondly, I don't know if your sister bought the same ones or you're sharing- but it's unnecessary. There are women all over the world coping you, when you're sister's doing it it should be pretty glaringly obvious that you need to move on to something else.

And for a direct comparison of yesterday's look vs. the coat's 2009 appearance check out below:

Kate at the Trooping of the Colour

WINNER OF THE WEEK!

The hat is AMAZING!

The coat is die DIE FOR! Honestly the cut, the color- its all good stuff. I haven't heard where it's from BUT I would be willing to bank Alexander McQueen. The fact that we haven't heard anything yet (this is the 15th of June now that I am writing this) lends credence to that fact as they are always SUPER quick to release when she wears a high street piece.

The hair- possibly my favorite yet.

The teeth- let's not lie, they've been lightened and it's a good look.

The shoes- I want to see them, desperately!

Kate Middleton and Prince William at the 10th annual Absolute Return for Kids (ARK) Gala Dinner at Kensington Palace

So Kate made my day again for the second time this week (honestly thus far the high points of an otherwise pretty disastrous week) wearing a Jenny Packham gown and L.K. Bennett shoes... and she looked STUNNING.

Check it out below...

Ahhhhhhh!!!!!! Amazing! Check out her hair on the right. Could it be any more PERFECT! Check out those bouncy curls. I'm obsessed. Probably the nicest I think her hair has ever looked.

Her arms look slightly bigger here. I won't lie, it makes me feel a lot better about my own 'guns'! P.s. I'm willing to put some good money on the fact that those teeth have been seriously whitened, and they look awesome!
Pleeease! Can she wear some more pastels! This is her hitting her stride- for sure!
