VERY NICE REVIEW OF MY SCREENPLAY "DRACULA GENESIS"

While cleaning up my computer I found this very nice review of my fantasy screenplay "DRACULA GENESIS- sent by my friend screenwriter Kirby. Wanted to share this with you.

Okay, this past weekend was dedicated entirely to reading your script :)

It was a very entertaining, interesting read for sure. I loved everything that was going on in the boat, the flashbacks were very visual, I know it must not be easy to create another take on the Dracula saga. more importantly, i liked how you made characters of Bram Stoker as well as Vlad the Impaler.
There were many startling images - lots of excitement!! The action aboard the Demeter was lots of fun to read too!
Well done Jordan!!

Stubbs and Wootton....

My spring MUST have. Stubbs and Wootton monogrammed slippers. I haven't ordered them this week buuuuut it's happening this week and I am SO fing excited!

As if you needed any more convincing that these bad boys are indeed the ULTIMATE prep accessory.

I've ordered many for the men in my life but this is the first time I'm sharing the bounty with myself. I never thought they would look nice on girls until a friend took her heels off at a party and borrowed (well, we'll call him Mr. X) Mr. X's Stubb... lets just say in that moment an obsession was born. It was like Charlie Sheen as a flat..... or just simply flat's on crack.

I've been unsure whether to spring for the $900 hand monogrammed or the $600 personalized ones with a dog motif. I think I'm just going to have to go whole hog on this one (ps. monograms are massively on trend for spring, jump on the bus!) though. Could flat's be the new must have handbag? I support it!

And then as if I needed any more convincing I found this picture of my FAVORITE prep rocking hers. That's right I'm talking about the big P.

And a few more photos for your viewing pleasure!

This picture makes me smile

Three of my favorite people in fashion...

Summer lust

So if any of you are in Toronto at the moment you know that although Spring officially started weeks ago Mothern Nature is in a bit of a strop and apparently hasn't got the message. It's absolutely freezing here and I have some major warm weather lust. I couldn't help but share that with you through some of my favorite sun snaps:

So let's all hope that Mother Nature sees this and gets with the program. Let's be honest, there's nothing worse than a testy woman... otherwise (I won't lie) I'm too close to singing Mr. Sun for comfort.

New blog obsession!

So I saw this photo featured on a blog on tumblr and I knew I just HAD to find the original blog it was taken from.

The blog is called 'The Blonde Salad' and the stunnner is blogger/ fashionista/ student (and let's be real here model...) Chiara from Milan (which I have to say I found surprising as her style is much more preppy than southern European- but I suppose you never know!).

Mulberry + Stubbs and Wooton= Preppy

Basically what I adore about the photo is the Mulberry bag (we all know I'm a fan) and the Stubbs and Wooton slippers. I am having a bit of a love affair at the moment with their monogrammed slippers and plan on ordering a pair in purple this week... lets just say whatever doubts I had about rocking them this summer have officially been decimated by this preppy confection of a photo. LOVE IT... although I have to say I'd prefer a plain white jean (I'm thinking MiH rather than a ripped jean... I feel like the rips date the look slightly, a bit 90s).

Anyways check out her blog here for more sensational style snaps...

WRITING THE FACE- A description of the many drafts and backdrops of the science fiction screenplay

"Writing "The face" while coping with the death of a loved one." by Jordan Tate.

I  started to work on a treatment for « THE FACE » 3 years ago. From the beginning the script was intended to be the story of a COP living in the FUTURE,  traveling back in time to save the woman he loves and discovering a  shocking truth on his own past.

The treatments went into several drafts and the characters have been going through several versions before becoming the final versions of themselves: DETECTIVE ADAM TAYLOR and DOCTOR ROXANNE BERRY.
In one draft, they even were deadly enemies!

DEATH IS DEFEATED THROUGH ADVANCED SCIENCE

I knew my screenplay was going to take place in a NEAR FUTURE-  and to me, A CIVILIZED SOCIETY is a world where death does not exist anymore. I knew I wanted to make of the world Adam and Roxanne will be living in, a world where humanity has reached physical immortality through advanced science, defeating aging and dying through a scientific treatment.

Years ago, I had become particularly interested in EMBRYONIC STEM CELLS TREATMENTS  and as everyone knows I’m a fierce opponent to religious leaders: Obviously, their main reason for trying to stop science advancement is not to protect « embryos and lives », EMBRYOS ARE NOT BABIES! NOT YET! Not BEFORE WEEKS! They are only a ball of cells until a certain point. If you want a concrete example: The egg you eat is not a bird.

OBSVIOUSLY This baby story is a way to manipulate people’s feelings in the most malicious way, by convincing the most naïve of them that using embryonic stem cells will kill children!

RELIGIONS COLLAPSE

The main reason for the religious leaders  to be opponents to the embryonic stem cells treatments is THEIR FEAR  TO LOSE CONTROL OVER POPULATIONS, since religions have built their « CULT » on DEATH!

Imagine a world where people do not age and do not die anymore, why would people need a religion? Religion promises eternal life through death, (therefore death is their only to go on existing) as  science is able to achieve eternal life/ physical immortality on earth!

AS SOON AS DEATH WILL BE DEFEATED THROUGH SCIENCE, RELIGIONS WILL DISAPPEAR!
THEY WILL BECOME USELESS!!!

HERE IS THEIR MAIN REASON!

My BACKDROP was beginning to take shape!

I knew the world I was about to construct will be A WORLD WITHOUT RELIGIONS.

Then, a terrible event occurred in my life, my Grandmother suffered a stroke and incompetent doctors let her die for weeks, without any cure!

It’s been one of the darkest period in my life, a terrible feeling that evil people were literally  killing a person I love…At this point, I DROPPED ALL MY PROJECTS, including « The face » that was only a first rough draft,  and I completely forgot about it. I could not write anymore, it was too much for me. I could not cope with this  terrible death and write a screenplay revolving  immortality at the same time.  Moreover, I was suffering post traumatic symptoms that were preventing me from focusing on my writing.

For months I thought I will be unable to resume writing…

But someday, I felt I needed to  finish this screenplay, I felt I needed to depict a world where death will be defeated in order to show people it can done and I started to speak to SCIENTISTS about the BENEFITS OF  EMBRYONIC STEM CELLS TREATMENTS.

DECEMBER 2010

The Christmas period is always so difficult for me now,  as I loved this time of the year, yeas ago. I was trying to cope with my dark thoughts when something happened, I WATCHED STAR WARS TRILOGY AGAIN ON TELEVISION.

And I felt this emotion, this passion for cinema I had lost during this terrible ordeal was coming back. Through his  stories and characters, GEORGE LUCAS TRIGGERED THIS PASSION FOR SCIENCE FICTION AND CINEMA IN ME AGAIN. I had to finish « THE FACE » I had to complete the beautiful romantic story of my characters Roxanne and Adam.

WEEKS LATER,  I STARTED TO WRITE ANOTHER  DRAFT OF MY SCREENPLAY « THE FACE »
My main characters were now living in a world called « INFINITY ». A new ERA that began on December 21, 2012, when a group of REBELS called « THE LIGHT BRINGERS » showed the world a technology enabling physical immortality through the injection of NANO ROBOTS transporting STEM CELLS into the organism. The world as we knew it ENDS at this moment, replaced by this perfect society of immortality. Religions declared enemies of the science and guilty of crime against humanity for having hidden this technology to humans for years are now BANISHED.

HERE IS THE START, THE BACKDROP OF THE BRAND NEW SOCIETY, ROXANNE AND ADAM are going to live in…

Now, I HAD TO RECREATE MY PLOT:
I knew my leading female character, was going to be assassinated at one point,  I knew a LAW  was going to take my couple apart.

WOULD YOU BREAK A LAW in order to save someone you love? Was the question.
As the LIGHT BRINGERS did it when showing the world that embryonic stem cells could prevent people from aging and dying, my detective Adam Taylor chooses to do break the law too, putting the equilibrium of this perfect society at stake when TRAVELING BACK IN TIME, and finally discovering the truth on his own post during his journeys.

THE FIRST SCIENTIFIC RESURRECTION

The screenplay also SHOWS THE FIRST SCIENTIFIC RESURRECTION through NANO ROBOTS AND EMBRYONIC STEM CELLS

When writing the script I asked several people, « would you be happy to see this lost one again? Would you like to talk to them again and being able to say all the things you could not say in the past? »
All of them answered they would give anything to see their lost ones again…So

I HAD TO CREATE A RESURRECTION UNIT

Cemeteries can not exist in a perfect society, and of course, ROXANNE my main character had to work in this resurrection unit.

After several researches, I found out that using  embryonic stem cells and nano robots could be a good way to bring the dead back to life. Without disclosing too much on this method, I would like to mention that the method described in the script is COMPLETELY ACHIEVABLE since it uses DNA.
IT IS NOT CLONING, even if my screenplay mentions clones in a very positive and funny way, It’s a matter of restoring a dead one completely and literarily bring them back to life, as if their death had never existed.

I HAD TO RECTIFY what had been done in the past when scientists had chosen to let people die in agreement with what the religious leaders wanted, and to bring back the victims of THIS CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY, therefore, THE SCRIPT SHOWS A VERY MOVING SCIENTIFIC RESURRECTION, scene that make the few privileged ones who read the script cry. The scene shows the resurrected people, who were victims of what I call « THE DARK AGE » of humanity, coming out of the hospital and reuniting with their loved ones…IMAGINE WHAT IT WOULD FEEL LIKE…

I HAD CREATED THE PERFECT SOCIETY CALLED « INFINITY »

The place where everybody wants to live in, but as my screenplay is a SCIENCE FICTION THRILLER, something has to happen, and of  course, my characters have to go through internal conflicts and to battle deadly enemies  in order to achieve their goal and be reunited.

The screenplay is all about what someone is able to do in order to save a loved one from death.
It is described as a mixture of INCEPTION (for the very complex plot) and OUT OF TIME, (for the time travel plot) with a small dose of Doctor Who.

And above all, it is a fantastic journey, viewers will most likely want to embark on several times…
AND A DESCRIPTION OF THE WORLD OF TOMORROW.

Hope you’ll enjoy your journey in « Infinity »

BEAUTIFUL STEM CELLS QUOTE

Researchers and biotech executives foresee the day when the effects of many catastrophic diseases can be reversed. The damaged brains of Alzheimer's disease patients may be restored. Severed spinal cords may be rejoined. Damaged organs may be rebuilt. Stem cells provide hope that this dream will become a reality.
GEORGE WOLFF, The Biotech Investor's Bible

MICHAEL J. FOX'S BEAUTIFUL QUOTE ON EMBRYONIC STEM CELLS TREATMENTS

My point is, and our point as a community, is we have a very good and supportable conclusion that a vast majority of people in this country are in favor of science playing a leading role in making changes in the future and believe in embryonic stem cell research. So we're just saying, know that we have prayed on it, too, and we have thought about it, and we are good people, and we are family people, and we are people that take this very seriously, and we're as concerned as you are. And we've decided that we would like to take this step and to do it with caution and to do it with oversight and to do it with the strictest adherence to ethics and all of the principles this country stands for. But, allow us to do that without infusing the conversation with inflammatory rhetoric and name-calling and fear-mongering. It doesn't help.

Elizabeth Taylor

As a child I was obsessed with classic films. The films of Vivien Leigh, Elizabeth Taylor, Cary Grant, Audrey Hepburn, Clark Gable, Paul Newman, Mae West, Doris Day, Rock Hudson... the list goes on. It was rather an odd collection to fascinate the mind of a six year old but fascinate me they did. As soon as I learned to read (I was a late bloomer only learning at the age of nine) I swiftly converted my love of watching these mesmerizing individuals on screen to one of reading their life stories. However, it was only the women whose biographies I eagerly checked out from the Leaside Public Library. Perhaps it was because I had learned to read through the Nancy Drew series (my father and I used to go to vintage and second hand book stores on Sundays after Church and scour the racks for original copies for my collection) and preferred female protagonists. Or maybe there was a deeper reason. Regardless of the reason Elizabeth Taylor and Vivian Leigh were the primary focuses of my attention and I devoured their biographies (I must say not the most appropriate of reading for a pre teen) and hung their photos on my wall (a framed photo of each still is featured on my cabinet). I even cut my hair at the age of eleven to match that of Elizabeth Taylor in Father of the Bride (an unmitigated disaster. Unlike Elizabeth Taylor I had the misfortune of going through puberty at the time of the decision and the combined effect of the unruly short mop of hair, the mass of pimples and the giant framed spectacles perched on my nose- in conjunction with the braces and head gear is enough to make me recoil in horror even now).

That's why when Elizabeth Taylor passed away yesterday I was personally touched. She had been a role model to me since I was a young child. The roles she played, not too far from the personality she herself cultivated- impassioned women of intellect and resolve- undoubtedly had an impact on the woman I aspire to be and the woman I am today. I remember vividly driving up to our family cottage in Gatineau whilst reciting the lines of Maggie 'The Cat' from Tennessee Williams' Cat on a Hot Tin Roof even today (my favorite role of hers). However the role that has haunted me has always been that of Angela in A Place in the Sun. I think it was the first time I realized the seductive and destroying quality of money in the world of Romance- a lesson I have not forgotten. When I think of her it is therefore the conviction and passion of the roles she played that strikes me first (the reason I loved her as a child) and then her significant contributions in the fight against HIV (her compassion and drive to change the lives of this much maligned minority has impassioned me over the last few years) which I remember secondly. It is only as an afterthought that I remember her great physical beauty, but when I do remember it (and how could you not) I remember her in her role as Angela. And it is these images, and the words "tell mama, tell mama all..." which haunt me.

Obsessions

Things I want for spring:

1. Mulberry womenswear. Womenswear JUST showed up for purchase on the U.S. site although just as my parents are leaving Florida, poor form Mulberry BUT these two items are definitely featuring on the top of my shopping list for my summer London shopping trip.

2. Hermes enamel bracelets in plum and pink.

3. Ferragamo ballet flats in cracked gold metallic. I can't find them online yet but I saw them yesterday in the window of David's and I had a bit of a moment. Unfortunately I was on my way to Pusateri's to pick up bacon and eggs (the irony of which is not lost on me) so I was unable to get a picture of them in store and have since been unable to find them online BUT don't fear my loves I promise I will get it, by hook or by crook, and it will be posted in due course. My only sadness about these flats is that they make me which I'd gone for the Mulberry Lily in the mirrored metallic this season rather than in the chestnut leather, as let's face it the mirrored bag would love amazeballs with these shoes (which I know is all theoretical as you can see neither) BUT I keep reminding myself that eventually the matching chestnut dog mac will be in stock in a medium and then my pup and I will be matching (yes I know, it's a sickness); however, until then I fear that I will e plagued by twinges of regret.

4. Smythson pink card case. How fing adorable!!!!!! Might not be totally appropriate for life as a lawyer but why not?!

5. Carven wool skirt in mandarin. Perfect for summer's color blocking trend and on point for my love of pastels and sherbet colors (yes I am a spring- it's not just an obsession). It's just a pity the matching blaxer isn't more fitted (personally I think the tailoring is a bit of a mess). It could have been such an adorably Jackie O- eque outfit.

6. Milly bathing suit. My big lesson last year was that although pastels suit me for clothing I have to stick to jewel tones and darker shades for swimwear, or else I risk looking washed out- or worse nude (true story).

7. Mui mui wedge. Apparently (says the Prada store on Bloor) there will be a stand alone Mui Mui store coming to Toronto soon (although when is still a mystery so essentially the point is moot). I feel like these would be insanely adorable for summer and intensely leg lengthening (I'm thinking nude Louboutain platforms but better and more day appropriate).
8. Smythson pink i pad case. Literally my obsession of the last few months. I wanted it for Christmas but it sold out in minutes on Net a Porter BUT now it's back!!!! And best of all Net a Porter is now carrying a larger range of Smythson products although I'm still waiting for the appearance of their travel wallets *hint hint nudge nudge*

First post

So today is my first post! I'm pretty excited because this is also my first blog. I know hard to believe 23 and a blog virgin!

So you may ask what prompted this decision to swipe my b card?! Well I've been ill for the last couple of weeks, a personal atrocity which has culminated in me losing my voice. I just didn't seem right to deprive people of my all important thought so I thought what better way to express them than via a blog! I've been thinking of starting one for awhile but this sudden voice loss was the impetus I needed to get on with it.

I can already hear your next logical question forming (and if this is not your next question then find a new blog to follow as obvs you are not acquainted with the 4ws of journalism and you are therefore too poorly educated to enjoy my musings): what can you expect to read upon on these illustrious pages. Well wait with baited breathe no more as I have helpfully provided a list below:

- my unbridled opinions on a cross section of subjects and my musings on the correct way to do things and what's really important in life: manners, dogs, clothes, shoes and purses (in no particular order)

- rants about Toronto weather, the transportation system, the all too frequent road works and poor drivers (there may even be some naming and shaming).

- tales of good deeds witnessed around the world (I feel that these deserve greater coverage)

- tales from my life as a PA extraordinaire to two of the world's kindest, most generous and somewhat eccentric bosses (we'll call them G and T)

- a likely discussion of my current quarter life crisis: whether I should article in Vancouver in September and embark on a life as a baby barista (I am referring to life as a barrister, not working in Starbucks- if you even considered that I would entertain the latter again..... exit stage left) or continue down the PA road towards something in the fashion industry.

So now that I've given you a skeleton outline of not only this blog but in essence ME! I feel like I should tell you a little more about myself. My name is Kate (short for Kathryn not Catherine, so no you have not happily stumbled across the blog of the future Queen of England masquerading as a Toronto PA). I completed a law degree in England and a masters of law in Canada and I am currently working as a personal assistant (it may read Associate on my business cards but lets be honest I do pick up dry cleaning and shlep Patron so I'm under no illusions as to the reality of my position) before I move to Vancouver and embark on life as a articling student (ie. indentured servitude a la 2000s). I'm brunette, haughty, slightly pretentious (with and within reason), a dog lover (what true sloane is not), a self confessed fashion addict (purses and dresses being my biggest weakness) and eternally single (think Bridget Jones in a sample size).

Alright well this, I think, is enough for now. I'm going to go nap and perhaps return later.

Love and kisses xx

DECEMBER 21, 2012

On December 21, 2012, the world as we knew it ends. Humanity becomes aware that
the religious and political leaders have been hiding a scientific technology able to defeat death for years, this revelation induces the biggest revolt of all times, leading people in a new era called « the Golden age »

Roxanne and Adam are a couple in this post-December 2012 society of immortality, nothing should have come between them…Nothing, except the « 6 decades » law…

TRIBUTE TO ELIZABETH TAYLOR

Seems like the word "beautiful" was created for her!

MARCO WERBA, FILM COMPOSER- INTERVIEW

Check out the interview of my friend and talented film composer Marco Werba, who recently worked for Dario Argento

http://drgoresfunhouse.com/interviews/marco-werba/

ELIZABETH TAYLOR COULD HAVE BEEN SAVED!

Wonderful actress Elizabeth Taylor could have been saved with embryonic stem cells! She was suffering a HEART DECEASE:

Embryonic stem cells can be used to create organs, then, the new organ can be transplanted into the patient.
Not sure why the doctors chose to let her die. Ideological (religious) reasons? Once again, letting someone die when you have the necessary « tools » (embryonic stem cells) to save their life, is a crime against humanity!

Hard for a « embryonic stem cells treatments » activist like me to hear people are stilly dying, as I deeply know how to keep death at bay! To me it's like seeing the Nazis killing people in the Death Camps!

"The Face" first pitch revealed...But not disclosing too much

In a post December 2012- futuristic society, a cop illegally
travels back in time in order to save the woman he loves, only to discover a terrible secret...

Working on the pitch at the moment, the last words of  the original pitch disclose a key element of the script,  I've only changed the ending to share what my latest screenplay is about with my readers.

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES (2012): Joseph Gordon-Levitt is Alberto Falcone

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES (2012): Joseph Gordon-Levitt is Alberto Falcone

Joseph Gordon-Levitt will be playing Alberto Falcone in Christopher Nolan‘s The Dark Knight Rises. It has long been speculated what role Joseph Gordon-Levitt would play in Christopher Nolan’s 2012 Batman film. Nolan has always sought to ground his Batman films in reality even though the roots of his property are those of a comic book. Alberto Falcone is

the son of Mafia chieftain Carmine Falcone, the character Tom Wilkinson played in “Batman Begins.”

Alberto Falcone, who is also known as The Holiday Killer, would bring Nolan’s superhero trilogy full-circle. The character fits with the helmer’s stated intentions for continuity and preference to pit the Caped Crusader against “realistic” villains, as opposed to cartoonish nemeses such as Mr. Freeze and Poison Ivy, who Batman battled in Joel Schumacher‘s 1997 misfire “Batman and Robin.”

This fits in with some of the original rumors for Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s role in The Dark Knight Rises

The original rumor (which was nothing more than, now very poignant, fan conjecture at the time) was that Falcone comes back to Gotham to try and reclaim the city Batman helped take from his father. Also, it made sense because Selina Kyle (Anne Hathaway) believes Carmine Falcone is her father in the Batman/Catwoman storyline Catwoman: When in Rome.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s casting was kept alive by his current schedule availability

Since Gordon-Levitt was first reported last month as being in talks for “Dark Knight,” he hasn’t signed on for any more projects, and his summer remains wide open.

Gordon-Levitt recently wrapped David Koepp‘s thriller “Premium Rush,” which Columbia plans to open Jan. 13. He’s currently filming Rian Johnson‘s sci-fi pic “Looper,” which co-stars Bruce Willis and Emily Blunt.

I am looking forward to seeing Joseph Gordon-Levitt in a world created by Christopher Nolan again. We already spoke of Anne Hathaway and Tom Hardy being cast in the film here: The Dark Knight Rises casting: Anne Hathaway (Catwoman), Tom Hardy (Bane). What are your thoughts on Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s role in The Dark Knight Rises? The Dark Knight Rises will be released in theaters on July 20, 2012.

LEONARDO DICAPRIO PERFORMED AN INCEPTION ON ME...

Here's the story: I have had a dream of a meeting with Leonardo DiCaprio tonight. He was standing in the corridor of my apartment. But I slammed a door in his face, because I had no make up on! Makes me wonder...Why was he in my dream? Is he performing an INCEPTION on me?

We'll see if I'm doing unusual things in the upcoming days...

J.J ABRAHAM'S "CLOVERFIELD"

I just watched "CLOVERFIELD". Spectacular! The movie left me on the edge of my seat! I highly recommend it to all the fans of monsters/disasters movies. It's very entertaining! The film is presented as if it were a video segment recovered from a personal video camera, exactly like "The Blair witch project", except that "Cloverfield" was not boring to death! lol. I have missed so many films lately, due to my busy schedule, and as I love fantasy movies I wanted to see this one.
Watch it If you haven't done it already! Jordan.
