Yesterday a behind the scenes video from the campaign shoot for GAP's highly anticipated new range was debuted. The video offered all of us, who are eagerly anticipating next month's launch, a glimpse of what Diane Von Furstenburg has in store, for us and, for the high street retailer.
The collection is to include shift dresses, shorts, espadrilles, sandals, shoes and cropped trousers- all emblazoned with Ms. Furstenburg's signature primary colored prints.
The designer said about the collection "I wanted to go to the core of what the brand is and take print, and make them fun prints and things that little girls would like... A little girl, the minute she is born, she already is the woman she will be.... So to empower a little girl is to empower the women tshe will become."
In collaborting with Gap kids Diane Von Furstenburg follows in the footsteps of Stell McCartney,. who created two sellout lines for Gap last year, before launching her own children's wear range.
When Ms. von Furstenburg announced the collaboration last summer she cited her role as 'proud mother and grandmother' as her inspiration to branch out in childrenswear. The designer has three grandchildren all the products of her first marriage to Prince Egon of Furstenburg and their two children Prince Alexander and Princess Tatiana. Ms. Von Furstenburg herself became Princess Diane of Furstenburg upon her marriage to Prince Egon of Furstenburg, but she is no longer entitled to use the title as a result of her divorce and remarriage (to American media mogul) Bary Diller in 2001 (they had been involved, on and off, since the 1970s).
Art Peck, the president of Gap for North America, said about the collaboration that "I'm looking forward to offering our customers an exciting collection that applies her signature approach to print, optimistic colour and femininity."
I am honestly beyond jealous. I wish she would so a collection with Gap for adults/ that I could shop at Gap kids/ I had a child to shop for at Gap kids. I am honestly racking my brain trying to figure out a child I know well enough to purchase some of these items for.... without appearing too much like a weirdo.
